Water You Doing for Summer?

Water Adventures Around Redding

1) Ride the Rapids

With so many rivers in and around Redding, take your pick of whitewater rafting. The Trinity River and the Upper Klamath run fierce and fast! (There’s even a class 5 at Willow Creek.) Want mellow and super scenic? The Sacramento River runs right through Redding, gets up to class 3, and passes under six bridges (including the famous Sundial).

2) Have a Splash of Whiskeytown

Just 8 miles outside Redding, Whiskeytown National Recreation Area is a liquid pleasure that shouldn’t be passed up. Surrounded by mountain peaks, Whiskeytown is nearly 40,000 acres of all things outdoors: waterfalls, beaches, hiking and biking trails, and a crystal-clear lake at the center of it all.

3) Blast Off

Take flight from water to sky with the newest watersport! The Jetovator is a water-propelled personal watercraft that blasts you up into the air for thrills on the lake and in the sky! Beautiful Shasta Lake is a prime spot for trying out this new sport, and it’s easy to learn—10 minutes and you’re all set.

4) Sunset Under the Sundial

Redding is home to one of the world’s most famous pedestrian-only bridges: the Sundial (its sister bridges are in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Seville, Spain.) The bridge is literally a giant sundial, and it crosses the Sacramento River, which weaves through the heart of Redding. Paddling under the Sundial Bridge at sunset is simply sublime—giving you a beautiful perspective of the bridge and views up and down the river, all the way to iconic Mount Shasta.

5) Dine on the Lake

Every seat has a lake view when you take a dinner cruise on Shasta Lake. With only one cruise per evening from Memorial Day through Labor Day, this is a delicious way to celebrate the great outdoors!
