SUP Yoga in Alameda and Wine Tasting

Hawaii isn’t the only way to enjoy a little island life. Strike a mermaid pose right here in the Bay Area with a yoga session on the waters surrounding Alameda Island. Nicole Kanour and the crew at Mike’s Paddle lead 90-minute SUP yoga classes departing from Ballena Bay, a little-known boating haven tucked across from iconic SF cityscapes. Bring sunglasses! And don’t be intimidated if you’re a newbie: The still waters combined with a paddleboard’s stability keep things flowing. Warm up with a brief paddle to buoy lines in the middle of the calm harbor, then slowly cycle through downward dogs and Chaturangas atop glassy waters juxtaposed by distant cranes and barges.

Dipping a toe or finger while sunbathing in Savasana is pure bliss. Post Zen, it’s time for some zin! Nearby Rock Wall Wine Company in Alameda Point’s Spirit Alley is housed in a former 40,000-square-foot hangar. Naval planes have since been swapped for a funky geometric dome, outdoor patios accented with ambient string lights, and spectacular views of the San Francisco skyline.

Mike’s Paddle is located at 1150 Ballena Blvd. in Ballena Marina and offers classes and rentals for all skill levels. SUP yoga is $30 for 90 minutes. View schedule and sign up. Rock Wall Wine Company is located 10 minutes away at Alameda Point. No dogs.
