Inn-spiration Point!

Hike to the Historic West Point Inn on Mount Tam

For more than a century, people have been making the pilgrimage to West Point Inn, and for good reason. Perched at 1,785 feet on the southern slope of Mount Tamalpais, the historic inn has sweeping views from the Marin Headlands to the San Francisco skyline.

For most visitors, getting to West Point Inn is part of the adventure, requiring a hike or mountain bike ride. It's a favorite stop, with a sprawling deck and picnic area perfect for soaking in the scenery. Stay overnight in one of the inn's rustic cabins, and you'll have the place largely to yourself once the day hikers and mountain bikers head home. Read by candlelight in the lodge, stargaze from the deck, then wake to sunrise over Mount Diablo with a cup of coffee before setting out on the day's adventure.

Take a short hike to O'Rourke's Bench via Rock Spring Trail (looping back on the Coastal and Matt Davis Trails), or make the classic trek to Stinson Beach via the Matt Davis, Dipsea, and Steep Ravine Trails. Tam-fastic!

Hike or Bike Directions.

Tip: West Point Inn now includes an ADA-accessible cabin. Accessible vehicle access is available by advance arrangement.
