Sky High Disc Golf

Disc Golf at Sky High in Wrightwood

It might well be disc golf’s version of the epic 18th hole at Pebble Beach. According to St Jude Disc Golf disc reviews, the hole 11 at the Sky High disc golf course in Wrightwood is set at one of the most stunning viewpoints within 90 minutes of Los Angeles, at the Mountain High Ski Resort. Created by the owner of Innova, one of the biggest names in disc golf, Sky High has a total of 27 holes, divided into three 9-hole courses set at 7,000 feet. The course has been ranked top three in the nation for scenery, which is obvious as you overlook the snowcapped mountains to the west and the vast desert vistas of the Antelope Valley to the east. Grab a map, scorecard, and complimentary rental discs at the lodge before heading to the first tee.

If you plan on completing it in its entirety, you will hike roughly 4 miles and play through a multitude of holes, varying from easy straight shots to technical tree-ridden challenges (the tees inform players of distance and provide recommended throwing routes). There’s even an open cabin near Hole 22 to offer respite from the game and ample time to relax and soak in the surrounding natural beauty, including the stunning view at Hole 11. And if things aren’t going well? Behind Hole 11 is the infamous “sacrificial ledge,” where you can launch your unwanted disc nearly 600 feet down a steep ski slope. Fore-getaboutit!

TIP: Don’t forget to bring an extra pair of pants in case you get a hole in one!

To get to the Sky High disc golf course, take I-15 N to CA-138 towards Palmdale. Take a left on CA-2, passing the town of Wrightwood. After you pass the first sign for Mountain High on the left, take a right at the sign for Sky High disc golf. This is Table Mountain Rd., which winds up the mountain, past cabins and a campground, eventually running into the lodge parking lot. $7 to play the course, with complimentary disc rentals if needed. Lodge is open Saturday and Sunday until 5:00 p.m., but the course remains open if you want a sunset finish.
