Redwoods Getaway
Weekend Getaway to see the tallest trees on earth
People travel from across the world to see them, but here in the Bay Area we’re just a few hours away! The coastal redwoods in Humboldt County are the tallest living things on earth, and the area is designated as a World Heritage Site and International Biosphere Reserve.
Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, located within Redwood National Park, has miles of trails that wind around these giants, all the way to Gold Bluffs Beach where you can explore Fern Canyon, often called the “Jurassic Park hike” because parts of the blockbuster franchise were filmed here. You’ll want to roll down the windows and take it slow as you drive Avenue of the Giants in Humboldt Redwoods State Park, a scenic 32-mile route with plenty of places to pull over and walk among the giants.
Beyond the redwoods, bluffside walks above turquoise coves make for some magic-hour bliss in the coastal town of Trinidad. Trinidad State Beach is a dog-friendly haven backed by towering cliffs. A half-mile trail drops to the beach where you can explore College Cove. Fall for Humboldt County!
