Go the Extra Mile
Vista Trail Hike on the Sonoma Coast
You can drive right up to a lot of incredible vista points in California and they make great excuses for getting out of the car to stretch the legs. But the Sonoma Coast State Beach "Vista Trail," perched high on Highway 1, goes the extra mile, literally. Enjoy the best view of the Sonoma Coast on the 1-mile trail that edges cliffside high above the ocean and offers unobstructed scenery—from nearby Goat Rock to distant Bodega Head and, on clear days, all the way to Point Reyes. Picnic tables are also along the route. Try to grab one overlooking the Pacific and keep an eye out for migrating gray whales (March through April). The trail is a loop: short and sweet and vistalicious!
The Vista Trail parking area is 5 miles north of Jenner on Hwy. 1. The trail is paved and wheelchair accessible. Dog-friendly!
