From Beer to Buena Vista

Urban SF Hike

What’s brewing? How about some tasty German beers and some famous Irish Coffee! Get into the holiday spirit(s) with a classic leisurely stroll connecting the modern Radhaus Bavarian biergarten in Fort Mason with the classic Buena Vista Café near Fisherman’s Wharf.

The iconic scenery en route makes it the ultimate San Francisco treat. Start at Radhaus in Fort Mason. Pair a Schneider “Tap 4” Edel-Weisse beer with the dumpling soup. (We also really like their Grüner Veltliner wine).

Afterwards, walk the paved path (map link below) that descends to Black Point, Aquatic Park, and the Art Deco–style Maritime Museum, which constitute the San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park. Even if you’re local, you’ll appreciate views of the Golden Gate and Alcatraz as you make your way up to the Buena Vista.

The Buena Vista Cafe in San Francisco

All in, it’s only 0.8 mile from Radhaus … but still, it’s time to caffeinate with some spiked coffee. The Buena Vista makes a world-famous Irish Coffee from a meticulously honed elixir topped by cream that floats to perfection. And that’s not the whiskey talking. Beer to Buena Vista: Now that’s some good buzz.

Here’s a map of the walk.
