Where to Sheep

Stay at Sheepdung Properties in Anderson Valley

Located in the hills of Anderson Valley, with Adirondacks and hammocks perched perfectly for relaxation, and plenty of room to roam, Sheep Dung Properties is no ordinary name—because it’s no ordinary place!

The property is a collection of secluded modern cottages spread across 500 acres of Anderson Valley's rolling landscape. It’s the ultimate private escape. And it’s dog-friendly!

Couples should go for “The Oaks,” a large, welcoming cottage on an oak-dotted hill with sweeping valley views. The only company you’ll have up here is a family of quail. Also good: The Breezeway, a modern two-bedroom cottage with a full kitchen and two decks. You’re not going to go wrong with any of the cottages offered; they've all got the goods. It’s more a matter of how much room you want … and what’s available (you’ve gotta book in advance to snag one of these gems, but winter is a good time to get one).

The cottages are almost all windows, with no blinds, so the outdoor scenery comes indoors with you. (Don’t worry, nobody’s peeking other than the birds … and the bees …) In the morning, enjoy your coffee from the Adirondack chairs. After a day exploring, come back and catch the winter sunset from your patio, then grill up some bbq and open those bottles of Anderson Valley wines. There’s also a wood-burning stove for fireside pillow talk. On clear nights when the stars are out it’s worth staring at the sky until it’s time to go to sleep. Or count some sheep.

Sheep Dung Properties’ cottages are collectively under the umbrella name of The Other Place, located two and a half hours north of San Francisco, 1.2 miles up a country road off Hwy. 128 just east of Boonville. Reservations can be make by calling (707) 895-3979. Anderson Valley Market in Boonville has food and drinks, or bring your own. Sheep Dung is dog-friendly!
