Redwood Grove Nature Preserve in Los Altos
Big things come in small packages. Tucked in an upscale neighborhood in Los Altos, Redwood Grove Nature Preserve is just 6 acres, but it sure packs in those redwoods! This little sanctuary is a locals' favorite, with several spur trails, observation decks, and picnic tables. Wander the central boardwalk and hillside trail that follows bubbling Adobe Creek through a grove of reds transplanted from Santa Cruz. (All the trails eventually circle back or go through the boardwalk so you can’t really get lost.) Another notable landmark along its paths is the 1920s Spanish Revival-style Halsey House, the historic (now empty) home of grove founders Theodore and Emma Halsey. The fate of this house is controversial these days as some people would like to see it taken down while others want to see it restored.
Redwood Grove Nature Preserve is located at 482 University Ave., Los Altos Hills. Free parking available on University Ave. Dog-friendly!
