San Francisco has no shortage of outdoor art installations, but there’s one that rises above the rest. Spiking 90 feet skyward and located beside one of the Presidio's most tranquil hiking spots, Andy Goldsworthy's beloved "Spire" was built in nature, using nature. Goldsworthy used reclaimed Monterey cypress trees to create "Spire," which happens to be surrounded by beautiful vantage points showcasing San Francisco's most iconic sites. Visit this impressive installation and get a trifecta of classic San Francisco views by hiking a section of the Bay Area Ridge Trail. Park at Inspiration Point—famous for its outstanding view of Alcatraz and the Palace of Fine Arts. Head across the street and follow the trail where soon you'll reach "Spire." The impressive installation reaches imperiously skyward. In the background, downtown San Francisco and its popular "point of interest"—the Transamerica Pyramid, peeks on the horizon. Follow the trail for 0.75 mile to the cemetery overlook, a peaceful spot with a beautiful view of the Bay Area's ultimate artistic installation: the Golden Gate Bridge.
