Lost in Translation? It happens. Here's how to take a breather. Right in the heart of the city is the Peace Awareness Labyrinth and Gardens, a relaxing retreat hidden in the historic West Adams district.

This sun-drenched respite is found in the gardens of a lavish Italian Renaissance mansion once lived in by famed musical director Busby Berkeley.

When you enter the grounds, a feeling of calm immediately enshrouds you. Ramble through the tiered meditation garden, filled with Japanese-inspired water fountains, a koi pond, and plenty of tucked-away nooks for quiet reflection. Then walk the marble labyrinth, modeled after one in Chartres Cathedral in France. People come from near and far to walk the 1/3-mile twisted path and center their busy minds. Beware: After your calming labyrinth stroll, you just might want to Nama-_stay_ forever.

The Peace Awareness Labyrinth and Gardens is open noon to 4:00 p.m. Sunday through Friday. Entrance is free, but you have to reserve a ticket here. No dogs.
