Pair Sunset Rock and Moro Rock for Rock-Solid Views in Sequoia National Park
Looking for a rock-solid itinerary in Sequoia National Park? Pair the park's most famous viewpoint with one that's often overlooked.
Start with the 1.4-mile (round-trip) hike to Sunset Rock, a massive granite dome where giant sequoias give way to sweeping views across the Kaweah Canyon toward the Great Western Divide. It's an ideal place to pause, soak in the scenery, or linger for sunset.
Then head to nearby Moro Rock, where more than 350 stone steps climb a granite dome with panoramic views stretching from the Great Western Divide to the Sierra foothills. It's one of the park's signature experiences—and a Hall of Fame view for good reason.
Tip: During summer, park at the Giant Forest Museum and ride the free shuttle to Moro Rock. If you're visiting later in the day, Sunset Rock is a wonderful place to catch the changing light before or after your climb.
