Wine Safari

Malibu Wine Safari

Did we have you at wine safari? Buckle up—you're about to go wild, with wine! Malibu Wine Safaris is the adult field trip you've been dreaming about, a 90-minute expedition combining wild animals and wine tasting. No, you haven't had too much to drink—that's really what this safari is about! So say cheers and strap yourself in to the back of an open-air camouflage truck, then bump along the mountain vineyard terrain of 1,000-acre Saddlerock Ranch, so named for the saddle-shaped rocky outcroppings on this land. Also lining the land: giraffes, camels, grapevines, and plenty more. How about another pour? The safari makes three stops. Once for a flight of the preserve's white wines; once for a flight of reds (and some snacks); and once to feed (and pet) the resident animals. Tibetan yaks say cheese for the cameras, alpacas spit on them, and a pair of rescue zebras preen for a quick pet. Go wild.

BONUS: Across the road, Malibu Family Wines lets more than its wines breathe. It uncorks a picnic paradise with a tasting room that's entirely outdoors and has live music on weekends.

Malibu Wine Safaris is at 32111 Mulholland Hwy. Safaris are $65/person. Malibu Family Wines, 31740 Mulholland Hwy. One bottle minimum purchase for groups  of 2 to 4. Picnics welcome. No dogs.
