This area was home to the Chumash for thousands of years. The Mediterranean climate supports diverse plant and animal life, including an important wildlife corridor for bobcats, mountain lions, and mule deer. A 3-mile moderate loop hike goes up and through vast open space with oak woodlands, sage scrub, and chaparral.

Start at the Canyon Overlook Trail for a quick ascent, enjoying early views of the Arroyo Conejo stream below. Within a mile, spectacular mountain views abound in combination with the dramatic canyon below. Cut across a ridge trail and gain big views of Thousand Oaks before plateauing at Lizard Rock, a nice spot for a break that includes a stellar panorama of Ventura County. The descent keeps offering huge views—including Camarillo’s charm-land.
