Hike Millerton Point in Point Reyes

Point Reyes National Seashore seems to be on everyone’s “favorite things” list, and for good reason. It’s a bounty of beauty from land to sea. So, how do you find a little peace and quiet here? Make it a Millerton afternoon!

A few miles north of Point Reyes Station, Millerton Point sits within the less-traveled section of Tomales Bay State Park on the inland side of the bay. From the parking lot, follow an easygoing 1-mile loop hike threading just above Alan Sieroty Beach and the tranquil bay.

Spur paths lead right down to the shoreline for those who want to lounge and take it all in. The main trail is easy to follow, with a few benches at idyllic spots overlooking the water and Heart’s Desire Beach on the other side. This trail tends to be quieter than others in the area. Go enjoy a soul stroll.

BONUS SHUCK UP: Point Reyes is ground zero for some of the West’s best oysters and just three-quarters of a mile north of Millerton Point, Tomales Bay Oyster Company (TBOC) is a favorite for buying oysters to take for a picnic at a nearby beach or park, including Millerton (other recommendations are Heart’s Desire Beach and Doran Regional Park). There’s no picnicking on site at TBOC. Open Friday to Sunday.

Millerton Point is at 15475 Hwy. 1, north of Point Reyes Station (map). No dogs on the beach. Loop trail is dog-friendly!
