Explore Vicente Bluffs Reserve in Rancho Palos Verdes

Vicente Bluffs Reserve dazzles anytime, but during the golden hour it’s an absolute knockout. Majestic rocky bluffs, dreamy ocean views, and a picturesque lighthouse are just a few of the reasons.

There’s also an educational museum, a premier vantage point for watching Pacific gray whales, and thoughtful planning that protects the native plants and wildlife.

A hike with beauty and brains? Swipe right! (Actually, you’ll need to just scroll.)

From the parking lot, start out on this 1.6-mile out-and-back walk by heading south on the Golden Cove Trail and making a right on the Seascape Trail. The mostly flat and well-maintained pathway runs about 185 feet above the Pacific Ocean along the rugged coastline.

The trail leads to the Point Vicente Interpretive Center, which hosts exhibits about the natural history of the peninsula and a native plant garden. Take a seat at the outdoor amphitheater and see if you can spot any gray whales making their annual migration (season typically runs from December through May). Past a grassy knoll (perfect for picnics) you’ll reach the Point Vicente Lighthouse, a historic 67-foot-tall structure perched on top of the rock, featuring a 1,000-watt bulb that can be seen over 20 miles.

After taking in the beautiful vista (and everything you learned along the way), head back the way you came.

To get to Vicente Bluffs Reserve, take CA-1 south and turn right onto Palos Verdes Blvd. In 1.3 miles, turn right onto Palos Verdes Dr. West. In 4.3 miles, turn right on Calle Entradero. Park in the small parking lot or in the designated parking spots on the street. The Point Vicente Interpretive Center is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Dog-friendly.
