Claremont Canyon Hike Brunch at Rick and Anns
Before saying hi to Rick & Ann, say hi to one of the best views in the East Bay. Hidden in the Berkeley and Oakland Hills, the 208-acre Claremont Canyon Regional Preserve rises to a sweeping bay vista. Hike up to it via the Stonewall-Panoramic Trail, which climbs steeply for three quarters of a mile among eucalyptus trees. A few west-facing benches strategically placed en route make nice places to grab a breather. At the peak you're rewarded with uninterrupted vistas of the bay and San Francisco's skyline. Explore more of the preserve or head back the way you came for a well-deserved bonus of bacon and eggs at Berkeley brunch staple Rick & Ann's Restaurant (located a few blocks down the hill from the trailhead). Their signature North East dish is a red flannel hash, with red beets, sweet potatoes, red onion, and bacon, served with two eggs. Good morning indeed.
The trailhead to Stonewall-Panoramic Trail is located on Stonewall Rd., off Claremont Ave. in the Oakland Hills. Two-hour free street parking is available in the neighborhood. Rick & Ann's Restaurant is located two blocks down the hill at 2922 Domingo Ave. in Berkeley. Hike is dog-friendly!
