Urban Wine Wheel

Biking and Urban Wine Tasting in Oakland

Waterfront warehouses pouring outstanding wines, buzzing freeways in the distance … Oakland’s Urban Wine Trail has uncorked a thoroughly modern era of wine, with ten tasting rooms in a 10-mile radius, centered on the city’s waterfront. Instead of rolling up in an Uber, rent bikes and pick up a map at Bay Area Bike Rentals in Jack London Square. Then pedal the wine trail to taste at your leisure.

Just feet from the Oakland Ferry Terminal, Rosenblum Cellars has waterfront seating and a sleek, reflective aesthetic that pairs perfectly with their Zins and Rhônes. Tucked in Old Oakland’s bustling Swan’s Market is the distinctly non-traditional Deep Roots Wine Bar, an expansion of experimental winemaker Brendan Eliason’s Periscope Cellars, which doubles as its tasting room. Three wines are on the house! Dashe Cellars opens its weekend outdoor wine garden on April 9. Stop by for live music, brick oven pizza, and wine (the 2014 Carignane is a standout).
