Color-fall Roll or Stroll

Bike or stroll beautiful Churn Creek Trails in Redding

With over 250 miles to choose from, Redding is known as Trail City, USA for good reason. Basically, this place is a mountain biking haven with one of the West’s best trail systems. Novice mountain-bike riders will love the beautiful fall setting and easygoing smooth trails in east Redding’s Churn Creek—aptly named for this time of year because the leaves are churning and cranking out beautiful fall colors.

The 3.5-mile Churn Creek Greenway loop is ideal for a pleasant pedal (or walk) through the forest, including some impressive oaks.

Expert mountain bikers looking for thrills will be enticed by the Enticer Flow Trail created by the Redding Trail Alliance in 2017. Located in the phenomenal Swasey Recreation Area, Enticer is black diamond material: a rollercoaster ride of great climbs, drops, jumps, berms, and plenty of heart-thumping thrills. Be sure to check out nearby trails! Swasey has some of the best built and maintained mountain bike trails in the Redding Area.

BONUS BEER: Post-rides always go better with craft beer, and Fall River Brewing delivers the goods. Their spacious and modern warehouse keeps things expansive and casual with picnic tables for seating, corn hole for playing, and all the equipment for brewing good beers.

Families can enjoy it, food trucks come by, and big screens feature sports of the day. For beer, try the Numb and Nummer Double Hazy IPA or the Island Daze fruited sour. There are also craft seltzers and canned cocktails (don’t knock it until you try it: Release the Hounds is pretty tasty!).

Churn Creek Trails can be accessed at 1611 Dakota Way. Park in the lot and pass through a gate, then look at the map to get a lay of the land. Dog-friendly!
